Museo del Novecento Florence

Yesterday I visited the new museo del Novecento, with works of Italian art of the 20th century. Its located at the beautiful restored Piazza Santa Maria Novella, near the station, in the Leopoldo óspedale. It recently opened, at the 24th of june- but it had been a long time coming, it has been projected ever since the huge flood of '66.

Has it been worth the wait? They definitely have some interesting pieces there, over 300 are exhibited and divided into several sectors and themes. It's not just paintings but also sculpture, video installations, documents etc. It hosts the artworks of some of the most significant Italian artists of the first half of the Twentieth century, such as Renato Guttuso, Felice Casorati, Giorgio Morandi, Arturo Martini, and Marino Marini. The Magnelli Legacy, to which this important space connecting the first and the second floor is dedicated, contains fifteen paintings completed between 1914 and 1968. The works, exhibited in rotation, were purposely selected by the artist to illustrate his entire artistic career.
